Experience & Specialisms:
Gavin joined Maxwells after leaving sixth form college in 2004, he developed his accountancy and business advisory skills whilst training ’on the job’ and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2008. Gavin became a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2013 and was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 2020. Gavin was given the honour of representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales as it’s South West president and chairman in May 2023.
Gavin works with owner managed businesses in the SME sector helping them to develop their business assisting with accountancy, taxation and business advice. Gavin is not only approachable but speaks in plain English and clients really appreciate his broad spectrum of advisory knowledge. Gavin is fully qualified in Quickbooks Online as well as being well versed in a myriad of other software systems regularly assisting clients with their accounting system selection, installation and training requirements. In addition, Gavin specialises in VAT implications as well as a host of other general practice taxation issues.
Outside work:
Gavin has two young children to keep him very busy being Dads’ taxi as well as pretending to not enjoy getting involved in whatever antics the boys are up to on that particular day. When he is not enjoying family life he immerses himself in the local community.
Gavin is a keen fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, he was the Chairman for the Bridgwater Friends of Cancer Research UK for many years before stepping back in 2021.In 2019 the group hit the £1 million fundraising milestone and 2020 saw Gavin being bestowed the charity’s highest honour, the ‘Flame of Hope’ award. Gavin is still very much a supporter and heads up The Bridgwater Half Marathon annually which raises mainly thousands of pounds for the cause.
Gavin has a keen interest in amateur theatre, he is a former Chairman of Bridgwater Operatic Society and has been known to tread the boards in a number of shows. You can still catch him in the odd cameo role here and there where time permits, he is particularly excited about performing alongside his youngest son who has embraced the acting bug!
Gavin’s passion for performance and arts extends to Carnival where he is a former Chairman and Treasurer of Masqueraders Carnival Club based in Meare, Glastonbury. This sees him compering mouse races, bar tendering, stewarding and most notably organising the dairy wholesale operation at Glastonbury Festival as well as lending his hand to building the cart and performing on the 100 foot dynamic spectacle that is the November cart entry.
